Greetings,

My laptop does not list the IDT High Definition Audio Codec.. Is it compatible with my system?

Greetings BH,

Thank you for replying, but neither of them worked.  I received a message that stated they are not supported.

I have tried virtually everything I have come across in an attempt to restore my audio.  Since my laptop "Fails to play the audio test", I noticed the following error message...
"Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0282&SUBSYS_103C2341&REV_1000\4&306beb1a&0&0001 requires further installation".  Might that be the cause of why my audio is not working?

Any further insights or suggestions you can provide is grately appreciated.

Kind regards,

Paco

Hi, Paco:

Your notebook uses the Realtek HD audio codec, not the one from IDT.

Here is the link to the W10 driver from your notebook's support page:

Greetings Paul_Tikkanen,

Thank you for replying.

I accessed the link and downloaded the file, but received the following message - "Configuring IDT Audio Drive and Applications - The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package.  The install will be aborted."

I am at a total loss because based on what you shared, it should be supported.  I've tried everything except reinstalling Windows, because I am a novice and truly don't want to take a chance at rendering my laptop inoperable.

Might you have any other suggestions?

Regards,

Paco

You're very welcome, Paco.

I'm at a loss to understand why the Realtek driver right from your notebook's support page didn't work.

The hardware ID you posted tells me that it is indeed a Realtek audio codec.

I can only find support for the first part of the ID but not the part after &SUBSYS

You definitely need a Realtek audio driver of some kind for that device.

The only other suggestion I can offer would be to try this older version of the driver that is found on the base model 13-A100:

Driver - HP Pavilion 13-a100 x360 Convertible PC | HP® Customer Support

Greetings Paul_Tikkanen,

Again, thank you for your lending your expertise.

This one loaded and I was able to install it, but for some reason, the audio still isn't working.

When I attempted to test the audio, by selecting the device, it showed that there was "No jack information available" for the Realtek High Definition Audio, nor the Speakers - 3- USB PnP Sound Device.  As well, the "Troubleshooter" says that the "Audio service is not responding".

This is very puzzling.

Much like beforehand, when I consulted the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows and sought to conduct a device check  for the "Audo Playback", it failed the test.  The  "Audio Record" test failed also.  Meanwhile it shows that the "Audio Driver Update" is fine.

Before installing the Realtek Audio Driver, the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI informed "Your system does not allow to launch UEFI diagnostics from Windows".  Afterward, it gives the same message.

The Diagnostics UEFI shows that the BIOS-System Firmware is up to date.

Under 'Sound Video and Game Controles". a check of the Realtek High Definition Audio Properties' Events says, "Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0282&SUBSYS_103C2341&REV_1000\4&306beb1a&0&0001 requires further installation."

Similarly, under "Audio Inputs and Outputs", in relation to "Events", each of the three Realtek High Definition Audio items (e.g. Microphone, Speaker/HP and Stereo Mix) state the following, respectively:

Microphone -

Given these reports, I have no idea what to do.. Should I attempt to update the BIOS?

Thank you, once again, for your kind attention.

Regards,

Paco

P.S. - In retrospect, I believe I should have mentioned this from the onset.  Prior to installing the Realtek Audio Driver you provided, on one occasion when I was conducting an Audio Playback  test, it yielded the following error message - Audio Playback Test : FAILED.  FAILURE ID: PK7SKQ-7P7BPS-MFPWLJ-21D003

You're very welcome, Paco.

Unfortunately, I will have to give up on this I will leave you one suggestion though and that will be up to you if you want to try it.

If enter the failure code and your PC's product number at the link below, it will provide a pretty useless report regarding the code.

HP Customer Support - Service Center

HP Pavilion x360 - 13-a110dx (ENERGY STAR)

Product J9J82UA

Diagnostic report

Failure details - Audio Check:
IMPORTANT: The test found a problem playing audio or sounds from the speakers.
Unplug and reconnect the speakers to the computer.

Needless to say, you can't do that, since the speakers are internally connected to the PC.

If the audio was working before you installed W10, I recommend you go back to W8.1 and see if the audio works then.

It is very possible that the Realtek audio chip has a hardware issue of some kind--especially if the audio had been running fine on W10 and suddenly just quit.

If you are within the 10-day grace period since you updated, to go back to W8.1 it is easy to do.

If not, then you will have to clean install W8.1.

If you have to clean install W8.1, let me know and I will give you the links and steps to do that.

Updating the BIOS...that's up to you, but I would be very surprised if that fixed the audio problem.

This is the latest BIOS update for your notebook:

Greetings Paul_Tikkanen,

Thank you very much for all your assistance.

Regarding my use of Windows 10, unfortunately I updated to it quite some time ago, so the 10 day window to which you referred has long since passed.

You made a very good point, in that the HP Customer - Support - Service Center's report does me no good, given the reality of the speakers being internal.

By the way, you were right, because although I updated the BIOS, it did not result in a solution to my audio issue.

Amid all that I've attempted with respect to this matter (e.g. Running multiple HP Diagnostic Hardware Tests & Audio Tests, Resetting the BIOS, Updating the BIOS, Updating the Drivers, Changing the Drives, etc), I believe you are right.  It must be an issue with the RealTek Audio Chip or maybe the internal speakers themselves no longer work.

Although this effort was unsuccessful, I wish to thank you for your assistance.

All the best,

Paco

Anytime, Paco.

Sorry that we were unable to help you get the audio to work.
