Let's try a cloud recovery: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06162205
Let me know if this helps.

Thanks @Betty0610 for your response. So far the response of the HP staff has been that there is an issue with my particular laptop.
There's an alternative, which is that this behaviour is expected. The feature that I am asking for may simply not exist.
Can anybody show me that it's actually possible to manually switch between a 3.5mm jack microphone and the laptop's built-in microphone on the HP Pavillion x360?

Click on the speaker icon and it will show all the connected audio devices and you can select from there.
You will not be able to do that in the B&O app.

Okay, I give up. I have already explained the problem several times, very clearly, and I have even posted a screenshot showing that there is only one audio device.
I do appreciate that HP support staff are trying to help, but I have no wish to continue repeating again and again what the problem is.

I reviewed all the previous posts, and I think I know where I may have been wrong, I'm just going to blame the pandemic for the suggestions that seem to have led you to giving up. That said, I did some research and this is what I found about your combo jack:
The 3.5mm audio jack headset/microphone is a combo port, and what it means is, you can connect a regular headset that has both headset and microphone, you know like the ones you get with a new phone.
So, basically, without the need of any additional software, you can use both the headset & the microphone that comes with it.
You cannot switch to microphone only or headset only.

I have a similar question which I think might have the same answer as the answer right above this post. I have a brand new HP Spectre x360 Laptop - 15t-eb000 CTO. Page 7 of the user guide states, in describing the ports on the left side of the laptop: Audio out/audio in jack-(at the end of the description) This jack does not support optional standalone microphones. So I guess I'm out of luck if I want to connect a powered lavalier mike to this jack. This probably applies to your laptop as well. I, for one, am disappointed in this.

Hi @FalvinP,
We're not actually facing the same problem. My problem wasn't that the microphone didn't work, just that I couldn't choose which microphone to use via software. The only way for me to select the laptop's built-in mic was to unplug the 3.5mm jack mic.
Your issue is the particular type of 3.5mm jack that is on this (and most) laptops. This is a combo 3.5mm jack, and so it uses TRRS inputs. If your lavalier mic is TRS, then you can just get a simple adaptor to make it work.
