Microsoft Windows 11

I want to explain that with my JBL in-ear headphones, the audio quality is not the same when I connect them to my laptop as it is when I connect them to my Samsung S20 FE. On my phone, I can manage the headphones with an app, and the sound is much louder. However, on my laptop, I have to increase the volume to 80 to get a decent sound level. I don't understand why the audio quality differs. Could you please help me?

Hi @Exequiel35,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The difference in audio quality between your JBL 230 NC TWS headphones when connected to your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15 and your Samsung S20 FE can be attributed to several factors.

Audio Management and Optimization

  • On your Samsung S20 FE, you use the JBL Headphones app, which provides features like EQ settings, noise control, and sound enhancements. These settings can significantly improve sound quality and adjust the volume levels.
  • On your laptop, you may not have the same app installed, so the headphones are using default Bluetooth drivers without those sound optimizations.

Device-Specific Audio Output Power

  • Phones like the Samsung S20 FE often have more robust audio processing specifically optimized for wireless earbuds. They tend to provide a louder, clearer output with better bass and treble management.
  • Your HP laptop may not have the same level of Bluetooth audio processing or power for wireless audio, which may result in lower sound quality and volume. Laptops often focus more on general-purpose audio, rather than wireless headphone optimization.

Bluetooth Codec Support

  • Bluetooth devices use codecs to encode and decode audio. Your Samsung S20 FE likely supports higher-quality codecs like aptX, AAC, or LDAC, which can deliver superior sound.
  • Your HP laptop may use a more basic codec like SBC, which doesn't support high-definition audio transmission, leading to a perceived drop in sound quality.

Volume Levels and Audio Enhancements

  • As you’ve noticed, you have to raise the volume on your HP laptop to 80 to get decent sound, whereas on your Samsung phone, the output is louder at lower volume levels. This could be due to the phone's audio driver optimizations and amplification capabilities being superior to your laptop’s.

You Can Try:

Install JBL Software on Your Laptop: Check if there is a JBL desktop application or any other sound enhancement software for Windows that can help you customize and improve your sound experience, similar to the JBL Headphones app on your phone.

Check Bluetooth Codec on Your Laptop: Ensure that your laptop is using the best possible Bluetooth codec. You can check and configure the Bluetooth codec settings on Windows via the Device Manager or Bluetooth settings.

Adjust Sound Enhancements on Windows:

  • Go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices.
  • Select your JBL earbuds and click Properties.
  • Check the Enhancements tab for options like bass boost, loudness equalization, or other sound optimizations.

Update Bluetooth Drivers: Make sure your HP laptop's Bluetooth drivers are up to date. This can improve compatibility and sound quality with your JBL headphones.

By addressing these differences in software and hardware optimizations, you should be able to improve the audio quality on your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
