Hi @sounds2

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing frustrating issues with your built-in speakers. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the problem:

1. Check Volume and Mute Settings

  • Ensure that your volume is turned up and that the sound isn’t muted. Look for the speaker icon in the system tray and make adjustments as necessary.

2. Update Audio Drivers

Open Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.

Expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers:

  • Find your audio device (it may be labeled as Realtek, Intel, or something similar).

Update Driver:

  • Right-click on the audio device and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

3. Roll Back Drivers

If the issue started after a recent driver update, you might want to roll back to a previous version:

  1. In Device Manager, right-click on the audio device.
  2. Select Properties, then go to the Driver tab.
  3. If the option is available, click on Roll Back Driver.

4. Run the Audio Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Additional troubleshooters.
  3. Click on Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter. Follow the prompts to identify and fix issues.

5. Check Audio Settings

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Sounds.
  2. Under the Playback tab, ensure your built-in speakers are set as the default device. Right-click on them and select Set as Default Device.

6. Disable Audio Enhancements

Sometimes audio enhancements can cause issues:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Playback tab, right-click on your speakers, and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements.

7. Check for Windows Updates

Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date:

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Check for updates and install any that are available.

8. Inspect Hardware

  • Physical Connections: If you have external audio devices connected, try disconnecting them to see if the problem persists with the built-in speakers.
  • Test in Safe Mode: Boot into Safe Mode and see if the sound issues occur there. This can help identify if a third-party application is causing the problem.

9. Reset Windows Audio Services

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Look for Windows Audio, right-click, and select Restart.

10. Check for Malware

Run a malware scan using Windows Defender or another antivirus program to rule out any malicious software that might be interfering with sound functionality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
