Hello, good day.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop and I’m experiencing an issue with the audio. When I play sound, whether through the built-in speakers or headphones, I hear something similar to interference. This problem doesn’t happen all the time: when I turn on the computer and start playing audio, it sounds fine at first, but after a few moments, the interference begins.

The only temporary solutions I’ve found are to restart the computer or switch the audio mode from mono to stereo and back. However, this doesn’t resolve the issue permanently.

It’s worth mentioning that this problem only occurs with Windows 11. Previously, when I had Windows 10 installed, it didn’t happen. The only definitive solution I found was to revert to Windows 10, but now the system has updated again to Windows 11, and I’m no longer able to reinstall Windows 10.

I’d like to know if there is any permanent solution to fix this audio issue in Windows 11.

@Carus121, Hi there, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I understand how frustrating intermittent audio issues can be, especially when everything worked fine on Windows 10. Let’s work together to get this resolved.

Update Audio Drivers from HP

HP provides customized drivers for your Pavilion model. Please:

  • Visit: Official HP® Support
  • Enter your laptop model number (e.g., HP Pavilion 15-xxxx).
  • Download and install the latest Realtek Audio Driver or Conexant/Intel Audio (depending on your model).
  • Restart your PC after installation.

Disable Audio Enhancements

Sometimes enhancements cause interference:

  • Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar → Sounds.
  • Go to the Playback tab → Select your audio device → Click Properties.
  • Under the Enhancements tab, check "Disable all enhancements".
  • Click Apply and OK.

Change Audio Format

  • In the same Properties window, go to the Advanced tab.
  • Try changing the Default Format (e.g., from 24-bit to 16-bit, 44100 Hz).
  • Test audio after each change.

Run HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant can automatically detect and fix driver and system issues:

Check for Windows Optional Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
  • Install any driver updates listed under Audio or Realtek/Intel.

Advanced Option: Roll Back or Use Generic Driver

If the issue persists:

  • Open Device Manager → Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device → PropertiesDriver tab.
  • Try Roll Back Driver (if available).
  • Or choose Update Driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick → Select High Definition Audio Device (generic Windows driver).

If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers.

A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!

Take care and happy computing!

Best regards,

Max3Aj
