HP Pavilion x360 - 14m-ba011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Hp Pavilion x360 and the microphone does not work properly. It does not hear my voice, but when I type or touch the laptop at all the Microphone Array recording spikes. It hears typing and me touching the laptop, but nothing else. It is so odd. I have done everything the HP Virtual Agent has reccomended, and nothing works. I've spent hours trying to figure this out. What can I do?

Thanks.

@AngelitaE,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More

I read the post regarding the internal microphone not working. I will be glad to assist you with this. You've done some smart troubleshooting and provided a splendid account of the issue. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did you try the tap test in audio settings for the headset microphone?
  • Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
  • Have you confirmed the Microphone is listed under device manager?

  • Did you try an external microphone to check if that works?

For a start please try these steps:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon on the lower right corner of the taskbar.
  • Then please select recording devices. Please select the Headset Mic option
  • Then tap the Lid near the top gently several times next to where the webcam is located and check if the microphone bars respond to the taps and receive inputs.
  • If they do then it should work with a driver uninstall and reinstall.
  • Please make sure that the headset Mic is set to default and enabled in properties option.

Then please perform these steps from device manager.

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Check the box that says delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and audio drivers from this link:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers please select the country and follow the on-screen instructions.

Then check if this does the trick for you.

If the issue continues, then check if the internal Microphone is working and perform all the relevant steps from this link:  HP PCs - Resolving Microphone Problems (Windows 10, 😎   to troubleshoot the issue Then check if it gets resolved.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

This is not an option for me as my drivers are said to be up to date and the device is said to be working properly. Is this a known issue with the HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-bp1xx device? Is there a remedy that works aside from resetting the device?

@trexas_mom,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

After reviewing your post thoroughly I see that you have already tried performing a system reset on the PC and still having issues with the internal mic not working. This looks like a possible hardware failure.

Just before that I would like to ensure you have followed these steps here:

Let's start off by Running Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

@trexas_mom,

In this scenario, as you have already tried resetting the PC back to the factory settings and still having the issue, I would personally suggest this could be a possible hardware failure.

I would recommend you follow the instructions suggested in the previous post to contact our HP phone support for further assistance.

Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
