Internal Microphone seems dead. Conextant ISST
I've seen this question before on other models with no answers. My internal microphone, which I use with Skype for Business, seems to have quit. I have checked drivers, enabled/disabled, followed 9 troubleshooting steps, gotten all the HP updates, etc. There is no competing microphone attached to the laptop. Nothing.
This machine is less than a year old. Why would the microphone just quit? Anyone ever fix this issue?

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand the internal microphone doesn't work anymore,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you check with an external microphone to confirm the issue?
While you respond to that, here's what you could do to fix the issue:
Before you begin
While troubleshooting the microphone, you might need to disconnect it from the computer. Some USB microphones need to be disconnected according to manufacturer's instructions.
CAUTION:
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for disconnecting USB devices from the computer. Some USB devices must be turned off and/or ejected before they are disconnected from the computer. Other USB devices support the Windows Safely Remove Hardware feature.
Checking the microphone
First, rule out that the microphone problem is not one of the following issues:
-
Software: If the microphone came with software, make sure it is installed properly and is compatible with your version of Windows.
-
Power: If the microphone operates on battery power, make sure the batteries are correctly seated and are functional. If the microphone operates on external power, make sure that all the power connections are secure and the power cord is connected to a power source.
-
Volume: If the microphone has a volume control, make sure it is turned up half way.
-
Connection: Connect and disconnect the microphone from the computer port.
-
USB connector: If your microphone uses a USB connector, disconnect, then reconnect the USB connector to the computer. If the computer still does not recognize the microphone, try plugging the USB connector into a different port on the computer.
-
Jack connector: If your microphone uses a jack connector, disconnect, then reconnect the jack connector to the computer.
