HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0096au
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My internal microphone is not working. I cannot use cortana as she says there is a problem with my microphone or other websites such as messenger and collaborate ultra as it tells me my microphone is not connected (camera works fine).

I have tried

-Changed all my privacy settings to enable the microphone for all apps

-Tried connecting headphones that have a microphone included (this worked, so im presuming the issue is with my internal microphone and not my settings)

-tried Run, opened up the sound section and there is no internal microphone present once i click "show disabled/disconnected devices"

-uninstalling the latest windows updates to see if it made any difference

Install Script Setup launcher (windows took me through this process, didnt work)

-the link to the bios and driver update didnt work, told me the cookie was too large?

I've been trying  to fix this for hours, i spoke to a windows assistant and they could not fix it.

Just to reiterate, i need help to use my INTERNAL/INBUILT microphone, not external headsets (as they work just fine when i use them).

Thankyou

Hi:

Do you have an AMD HD audio device showing up in the device manager with the little ! mark next to it?

I have a similar model (15-ee0047nr), with the Ryzen 5 4500 processor, and after a bunch of updates, I had the same device with the same issue showing up in the device manager.

I got the device installed a couple of weeks ago.  I had no idea what the driver was for, but since you posted the mike isn't working, I went to the Windows control panel>hardware and sound and checked the audio devices, and sure enough the microphone is labeled as the AMD audio device.

So here is what you need to do...I have zipped up and attached the driver you need below.

Download and unzip the file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

Go to the device manager.  Click on the problem AMD audio device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder you unzipped.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC, and hopefully, the microphone will be working for you.

If that doesn't work, try the AMD Auto-Detect and Install Radeon™ Graphics Drivers for Windows®  utility at the top of the webpage below.

https://www.amd.com/en/support

Once the auto detect utility is installed, it will show an option to do a "Factory reset" which will delete, and reinstall all related graphics drivers (it will not remove any other program or app installed in your PC, or affect any of the already existing information.
