HP Notebook 15s-du1005tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all, a month ago I updated my Windows 10 according to the automatic updates that pop up. After that, my internal and external microphones started having volume issues.

All apps (Discord, Skype, Zoom etc) I use are unable to detect normal level sound from the internal mic, as well as the external mics even when I used two different pairs of earphones. These earphones worked fine with my laptop before this. Thinking my earphones mic became spoiled, I bought brand new pricey ones which worked find on my phone, but again, my laptop can barely detect any sound unless I shout into the mic (which is obviously not feasible).

At this point I'm certain it's my laptop's mic. I tried adjusting the Mic properties to make it louder and stuff like that but they were all already at maximum loudness.

Any idea what else I can do to fix this? It was not like this before I updated my OS, so I'm sure there is something I can reinstall or revert, but I'm not sure what that is.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi@ToasterCat, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook 15s-Du1005tx Notebook and issues with the Microphone not picking up correctly.  Here is a link to adjust some settings in the Microphone.

Turn off sound effects for the Microphone Array. This will self help document the ZOOM and Skype

This is done by the Control Panel command ‘sound’-> ‘recording’ tab -> select ''MICROPHONE ARRAY" and click on ‘properties’ ->on the ‘microphone’ pane select the ‘enhancements’ tab -> click the check box ‘disable all sound effects’ then click ‘OK’ on all of the panels back up to the sound panel.

Here is a document on checking the Skype settings.
