I am doing online Zoom dance classes and when I try to play music the members can’t hear it. Then if I talk I find the microphone has stopped working. I need to run a test and it starts again but this happens every 2 minutes

I had a similar problem. My microphone and speakers cut out repeatedly in Zoom meetings. I might have found a solution. It seems to be working okay now (based on one meeting). Here's what I did.

Go to Settings > System > Sound.
Under Output click Device Properties.
In Device properties click Additional device properties.
Click the Advanced tab.
Uncheck "Allow hardware acceleration of audio with this device" and "Enable audio enhancements."
Click OK.
Go back to Sound.
Under Input click Device Properties.
In Device properties click Additional device properties.
Click the Advanced tab.
Uncheck "Enable audio enhancements."
Click OK.

It's possible that only one of these settings needs to be unchecked, but I don't feel like taking the time to test one at a time.

My computer is an HP ProBook 450 G6 with Windows 10 Pro Version 1903.

Please post back to let me and others know whether this works for you.

I have exactly the same laptop, and exactly the same problem.

Did the suggestion below fix the problem long term?

Many thanks,

RDUNN3333 - What do you mean by "long term"? It's 2 weeks since I changed the settings. As of now it's still working.

I just tried this.  The item to uncheck was checked in device properties but not in input, so I only unchecked one.

I will try to remember to circle back to let you know if this worked. Thank you so much for clear instructions~

I read your post, and with trying to teach online, I am having trouble with my speakers and ZOOM.  They can hear me, but they are cutting in and out.  I followed your directions, and I do not have the same options as you indicated.  I have "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device." I have an HP envy.  Do you have any suggestions?  I am about in tears.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

Guehnetd - It sounds like you might be using external speakers. The steps that I gave are for the internal speakers and microphone built in to the laptop. You might see the options that I described if you exit from Settings, disconnect the external speakers, then go back to Settings. But if the problem is with the external speakers, changing the settings for the internal speakers won't help.

The solution that I posted is for a similar problem, but not exactly the same problem described in the first post in this thread. The person who posted the problem here, Miss_Lyn50, never came back to say whether the steps that I gave solved her problem. Also, my solution is specifically for the ProBook 450 G6. In another thread some people have reported that it worked for some other ProBook models, but not for the ZBook or EliteBook. I have no idea whether it would work for an Envy.

It's not clear whether you have the same problem that Miss_Lyn50 described at the beginning of this thread. She said she had a problem with the internal microphone, but you said you have a problem with the speakers.

My suggestion to you is that you post a new separate question of your own, with all the details of your specific situation, instead of continuing in this thread. This thread is now a few months old, and does not have the same visibility as a new question. In your new question give the specific model of Envy that you have, and your Windows version. Also give a precise and detailed description of what is happening. You said here "they are cutting in and out," but it's not clear who or what "they" are. In your new question be clear about what is cutting in and out. Is it the sound that you hear, or the sound that your students hear, or your speakers, or what?
