The internal microphone in the laptop is not picking up sound. It was working fine a few days ago and I used it to record voiceover in Filmora Wondershare but now it is not recording. I tried it on other apps like Wavepad but it does not work there also. I tried using an external microphone. It is not picking up sound either. I have tried all troubleshooting recommendations but nothing happened. Please help. I am very frustrated. I need to finish my project. Right now I am using my cellphone to record a voice over and then I transfer it to my laptop. Also, they cannot hear me on Zoom.

Hi @Cheerie,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I truly understand how frustrating this microphone issue must be, especially when you're on a deadline and relying on your laptop for voiceovers and Zoom calls. You're doing everything right by trying multiple apps and even switching to your phone. Let’s get this fixed together.
What’s Likely Happening?
Your HP laptop’s audio input system may be affected by:
- A corrupted or outdated audio driver.
- A disabled or misconfigured microphone device.
- A Windows update that reset privacy or sound settings.
- A deeper hardware or BIOS issue.
Steps to Fix Microphone Issues
1. Run HP’s Microphone Troubleshooter
HP provides a dedicated guide for Windows 11 microphone issues: 🔗 HP PCs - Microphone troubleshooting (Windows 11) | HP® Support.
2. Use HP Audio Check Tool
This tool automatically diagnoses and fixes sound issues, including microphone problems: 🔗 Fix Sound Issues | HP® Support.
3. Advanced Sound Troubleshooting
If the above tools don’t help, follow these deeper steps:
- Rollback or reinstall audio drivers.
- Reset BIOS to default values.
- Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for audio. 🔗 HP Notebook PCs - Advanced sound troubleshooting in Windows | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
