Hi @Mark21h,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's internal microphone is undetected in Zoom or other applications, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Check the Microphone Settings in Zoom:

  • Open Zoom and go to Settings (click the gear icon in the top right corner).
  • Go to the Audio tab.
  • Under Microphone, ensure that the correct microphone is selected. It should say something like "Internal Microphone" or the specific name of your laptop's microphone.

Check Windows Sound Settings:

  • Right-click the sound icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Recording tab.
  • Ensure that your internal microphone is set as the default recording device. If it’s not visible, right-click in the list and make sure both Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices are checked. If the microphone appears, right-click it and select Enable.

Update Your Audio Driver:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
  • Right-click on your microphone or the audio device manufacturer, and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Check Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  • Ensure that the option Allow apps to access your microphone is turned on.
  • Scroll down to ensure that specific apps, including Zoom, have permission to use the microphone.

Run the Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows operating system is up to date, as updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
