HP 255 15.6 inch G10 Notebook PC (78U76AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

I bought a new laptop a few days ago. After starting it, I discovered that the microphone is not detected by the system and does not work. I checked the BIOS to see if the microphone was enabled, and it was. I tried disabling it, restarting, and then enabling it again, but it didn’t help. After that, I tried installing several drivers, but that didn’t help either. I saw previos post with the same problem. The solution reply was to reinstall AMD Graphics driver. I did i but no result. I’m not sure if this is relevant, but when I press the audio mute and microphone mute buttons, the LED indicators do not light up. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Ivan703

Hi @IvAn703

If your HP 255 15.6 inch G10 Notebook PC is not detecting the microphone, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps for Microphone Detection and Functionality

  1. Check Privacy Settings:

    • Navigate to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
    • Ensure that the toggle for "Microphone access" is turned on.
    • Confirm that apps are allowed to access the microphone.
  2. Run the Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
    • Select Other troubleshooters, and then run the Recording Audio troubleshooter. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix the issue.
  3. Update Windows:

    • Ensure your Windows 11 is fully up to date. Go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
  4. Reinstall Audio Drivers:

    • Open Device Manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers category.
    • Right-click on your audio device, select Uninstall device, and check the option to delete the driver software for this device.
    • Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the audio drivers. Alternatively, download the latest drivers from the HP support website specific to your model.
  5. Enable and Set the Microphone as Default:

    • Go to Sound settings through the control panel or by right-clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar.
    • Under the Recording tab, find your microphone, select it, and click Set Default.
    • If it's not visible, right-click in the blank area and check Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. Enable any microphone entries that appear.
  6. Advanced Sound Settings:

    • In the Sound control panel, under the Recording tab, select your microphone and click Properties.
    • Navigate to the Levels tab and ensure the microphone is not muted and the volume is sufficiently high.
    • Under the Enhancements tab, uncheck all boxes if applicable, particularly any that disable certain enhancements.
  7. Check for External Interference:

    • Ensure that the microphone is not being obstructed or misconfigured by external software or hardware effects.
