I hadn't noticed the crunching sound until I tried to do a video chat using my internal microphone. Not sure what to do. I have tried video chat using various programs and different recipients with the same result, a crunchy/scratchy sound. The sound on my speakers is fine.

@AnnaD49
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
- Step 1: Check the microphone hardware (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)
- Step 2: Update the audio driver
- Step 3: Use the Troubleshooting tool
- Step 4: Configure the sound settings in Windows
- Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03421813 to complete the troubleshooting step.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

John - are you saying this fixed the problem using the mic? or are you referring to a test you did using WIN10 Voice Recorder. are you still experiencing the cracking sound on other programs like ZOOM?
Thanks - this issue with the microphone is consistent between using the side input audio port for any headset I use and problem is consistent with any bluetooth device with built-in mic. all have cracking mic issues.
I've uninstalled drivers, restarted system, installed update drivers - still not fixing the issue.
HP - please advise what the fix is.

This is a followup to my question on the crunching sound originally described.
I'd be willing to purchase a USB microphone - but if it's a software driver issue, another mic won't resolve. As I stated in my previous reply - any other Bluetooth device I use with a mic has the same crunching sound and the problem is consistent no matter what type of microphone being used. I've also tried 3 different headset/mic audio jack plug-in units and experience the static sound on the mic using all devices. It's not the devices, as I use these regularly on my iPhone for other calls and nobody hears any static/crunching noise.
thanks - Stixlsoan
