Product: HP EliteBook 840 G3 Notebook PC

Hello everyone. I have a five year old laptop that has persisent issues with it's microphone:

 

-speaker/internal mic doesn't work properly:

-laptop can't easily swtich from internal to external mic

-extrernal mic doesn't work half the time.

 

I have done the usual troubleshooting -eg uninstall driver, troubleshoot program but the issue persists.

 

Wonder if anyone here has had a similar issue and have found workarounds. I wonder if it is bad design or just a defective sound card.
