Hi @Beus61

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s never fun when a core part of your device suddenly stops working, and I completely understand how disruptive it can be—especially if you rely on it every day. I’m here to make things easier for you

Thanks for hanging in there. If the entire row of keys like asdfghjkl isn’t responding, let’s walk through some steps to get things sorted:

Step 1: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off your notebook.
  2. Press the power button, then immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Select Component Tests > Keyboard Test and follow the prompts.

This will help confirm if the issue is hardware-related.

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes a simple reset clears up keyboard glitches:

  1. Shut down the notebook.
  2. Unplug the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power and turn it back on.

Step 3: Reinstall the Keyboard Driver

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device, and choose Uninstall device.
  3. Restart your notebook—Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Step 4: Clean the Keyboard

Use a can of compressed air to gently clean around the affected keys. Dust or debris can sometimes block key contacts.

If the issue persists after these steps, the keyboard may need servicing. You can continue using your notebook with an external USB keyboard in the meantime.

Let me know how it goes—I’m here to help every step of the way.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
