Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In hp pavilion 13-u135tu with windows 10 am recently facing an audio issue. Its mute and not able to raise the volume or unmute it even after restoring win 10 from my recovery drive and updated all the audio related drivers. The master volume slider on dragging to raise the volume again gets back to zero. I have tried all it with restating the PC the uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling etc., but it didn't help.

Hi @SAHA100

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since you've already tried restoring Windows and updating all audio drivers.

Let's go through some deeper troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.

Advanced Fixes for Audio Stuck on Mute

Step 1: Run Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Scroll down and click Troubleshoot under Output.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix issues.

Step 2: Disable Exclusive Mode

  1. Right-click the Speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Playback tab and select your audio device.
  3. Click Properties > Advanced.
  4. Uncheck Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device.
  5. Click Apply and restart your laptop.

Step 3: Reset Windows Audio Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Locate Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, and Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
  3. Right-click each service and select Restart.
  4. Set their Startup Type to Automatic.

Step 4: Perform a Clean Audio Driver Installation

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  2. Expand Sound, video & game controllers.
  3. Right-click your audio device and select Uninstall Device.
  4. Check Delete the driver software for this device and confirm.
  5. Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the default driver.
