Hello,
I've had a problem with the audio cutting out on my laptop speakers (not even working via the headphone jack either) randomly and not coming back on until I restart the computer. As far as I know, this has not coincided with any Windows updates like others seem to be having problems with on the forum, but my computer is running Windows 8.1 now. The other day I tried to fix the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (off of the HP wensite) for my speakers like another forum suggested, but now the sound is only coming out of the speaker on the bottom of my computer and not from the sound bar on top creating very tinny audio that is driving me mad. It still has the old problem with random sound cutout as well. The computer, when prompted, says that all of the drivers for the audio are up to date and troubleshooting the sound turns up no issues. I'm not sure if this is a software issue I caused or some hardware problem with the sound card. The laptop is almost 5 years old now, but has had no other problems up to now and I don't regularly move or bump it around. Please help!
The laptop:
HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC
Windows 8.1, 64-bit
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M
Thank you in advance!
Courtney

Your machine is an HP ENVY 15T-J100 QUAD EDITION CTO NOTEBOOK PC (ENERGY STAR). Now please try
(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
(b) Go to Device Manager and uninstall Sound drivers then reboot machine,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select run as administrator then reboot again.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
