I am having a HP ENVY h-0028tx model. For the last couple of months I have been getting cracking sounds from the speaker. I have done the BIOS update, driver re-install with the help of hp support group however the issue still persists.

Hi @Santanu_Das02,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting crackling sounds from a laptop speaker can be quite frustrating. Since you've already tried updating the BIOS and reinstalling the drivers, let's explore a few more troubleshooting steps:

1. Check for System Updates

Ensure that your Windows 11 system is fully updated. Sometimes, system updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

2. Adjust Audio Settings

Adjusting your audio settings might help resolve the issue.

Sound Enhancements:

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Playback tab, select your speakers, and click Properties.
  • In the Enhancements tab, check the box for Disable all enhancements and click Apply.

Advanced Audio Properties:

  • In the same Properties window, go to the Advanced tab.
  • Under Default Format, try selecting a lower bit rate and sample rate (e.g., 16 bit, 44100 Hz).

3. Check Audio Drivers

Reinstalling the audio driver using Device Manager can sometimes fix persistent issues.

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click on your audio device and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop to let Windows automatically reinstall the driver.

4. HP Support Assistant

Run the HP Support Assistant to check for any hardware diagnostics or additional driver updates.

  1. Open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Go to My devices and select your laptop.
  3. Click Updates to check for any pending driver updates.
  4. Run the Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues.

5. Audio Troubleshooter

Windows 11 has a built-in troubleshooter for audio issues.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Find Playing Audio and click Run.

6. External Interference

Sometimes external devices can cause interference. Try disconnecting any peripherals and testing the sound again.

7. Safe Mode

Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to check if the issue persists. This can help determine if a third-party software is causing the problem.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  2. Go to the Boot tab and check Safe boot with Minimal.
  3. Click OK and restart your laptop.

If the sound issue doesn't occur in Safe Mode, it might be caused by a third-party application or service.

8. External Speakers or Headphones

Test with external speakers or headphones to determine if the issue is with the internal speakers or the audio system.

9. Hardware Check HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware issue with the speakers themselves.
