My laptops speakers are not working, when I try to watch a video nothing can be heard but when I put my headphones on, the audio can be heard. Not sure what to do, I updated my audio drivers and disconnected my headphones but the same thing still happened. I also checked through device manger and control panel and it said that my speakers are working?
Not sure what to check anymore, has anyone else had this problem?

@Cupcake_3, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like your laptop might be defaulting to the headphones as the primary audio output, even when they’re disconnected. It's definitely frustrating. Below are troubleshooting steps that should help you narrow down and fix the issue.
Check the Sound Output Settings:
Sometimes, the laptop is still set to output sound to the headphones or external device, even when they’re unplugged.
Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar.
Select Open Sound settings.
Under Output, ensure that Speakers or your laptop’s audio device is selected.
If it's not, change it to Speakers or the relevant option.
Check the Audio Playback Devices:
Your speakers might not be set as the default playback device.
Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar.
Select Playback devices.
In the window that pops up, you should see both your speakers and headphones listed.
Right-click on Speakers and select Set as Default Device.
Click OK to confirm and exit.
Check for Hidden Devices in Device Manager:
Sometimes, the audio driver could be incorrectly detecting headphones as the primary audio device.
Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
Right-click on your audio device (usually named something like “Realtek Audio” or “Conexant”).
Select Uninstall device, then restart your computer.
Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers on reboot. This can fix conflicts between the speakers and headphones.
Run the Windows Troubleshooter:
Windows has a built-in troubleshooter for audio problems that might help resolve the issue.
Go to Settings > System > Sound.
Scroll down and click Troubleshoot under the Output section.
Follow the on-screen instructions and see if it identifies any issues.
Update or Rollback Audio Drivers:
While you’ve updated your drivers already, there could still be an issue with the new update. Sometimes, the update might cause more problems than it solves, or there may be an alternative update that works better.
Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
Under Sound, video and game controllers, right-click on your audio device and choose Properties.
Under the Driver tab, you can either try to Roll Back Driver (if you see that option) or Update Driver again and choose the option to search automatically for updated drivers.
Check the Audio Enhancement Settings:
Some audio enhancements might be interfering with sound output.
Right-click the sound icon and select Sounds.
In the Playback tab, right-click on Speakers and choose Properties.
Go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements.
Click OK and check if the audio works now.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
