When I use my laptop with Discord, I use it with Apple earbuds. However, I would prefer to use the microphone array built into the laptop, and it is less likely to pick up the noise of me jostling the wire. Unfortunately, the laptop uses the earbud microphone instead of the microphone array, and the only time it uses the array is if the device does not have a microphone built in.

I have tried going into the sound setting and making the microphone array the default input device. That didn't work.

Are there any other ways to force my laptop to use the microphone array?

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand you are trying to use the in-built microphone.

Appreciate you trying the steps. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Run Audio troubleshooter -

1) In Windows, type find and fix audio into Search, or right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems.
2) Select Find and fix audio playback problems or Find and fix audio recording problems from the Search results.

Step 2 Re-install the Audio drivers -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.
3) Right click on the Audio drivers and click on uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.

Try these steps to enable the in-built microphone -

1) Plug in the headphones, go to "Control Panel" and then "Sound".
2) Click on the "Recording" tab and look for the mic. If nothing shows, then right click on the empty area of that screen and make sure to check both the "Show Disabled" and "Show Disconnected" options.
3) Right click on the in-built mic listed and choose to set it as default.

Hope this helps!

Let me know how that goes.
