I think the reason line in is missing is because the DTS audio control replaces the Realtek HD audio manager. I'm not sure if my laptop doesnt support line in or the Realtek HD audio manager. In the past I've used my desktop to record from the line in option. For three days I've tried installing different Realtek drivers which never gave me the manager. Is this just something I'm supposed to deal with? Thank you for the consideration.

The specs of your machine is

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04504152

It has following ports

  • 1 SuperSpeed USB 3.0
  • 2 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0
  • 1 HDMI
  • 1 RJ-45 (LAN)
  • 1 Headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack     (this is NOT a line-in port).

Some of the following adapters have line-in port.
