I keep getting an update notice for W11, update 24H2. However every time I install it, my speakers/microphone are no longer recognized by the laptop. I see that the HP Audio Switch icon on the taskbar also disappears with the update.
I have tried MS Support with two different tickets; and they say it is an HP driver issue.
Any ideas?

It's true as Microsoft said. From the official HP website itself, it has not provided a driver for Windows 11 for your laptop.
There is a way to solve the problem:
- Rollback all drivers that are part of the audio system, rollback to version sp104010 (download here)
- Find the Intel SST Audio Controller hardware ID and the Realtek driver hardware ID, type the hardware ID in the Microsoft Update Catalog search box.
To install the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog if you find a new version:
- Extract the .cab file to a folder
- Open Device Manager, click the 'Add drivers' icon and navigate to the folder where you extracted the .cab file.

"Find the Intel SST Audio Controller hardware ID and the Realtek driver hardware ID"
How do you do that?
Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.3624
Bluetooth Audio is working, just lost all the original RealTek Audio drivers and functionality as part of a recent update.
No RealTek Controller info shown under "Sound, video and game controllers" section
Under System Devices section I do show a problem with "Intel Sound Smart Sound Technology OED"
Hardware IDs:

Hi,
We are experiencing a lot of issues with the audio system on HP 250 G9 laptops.
It seems that the hardware is of rather poor quality. Both the hardware components and the drivers are subpar.
HP support has replaced the microphone hardware, but for many devices, the issue appears to be with the audio on the mainboard.
This is very disappointing.
We have tested extensively with HP support, using Teams, the 3CX phone system, Google Meet, and WebEx, but the problems persist.
As a result, we are moving away from this class of laptop.
Best regards,

I have found the latest driver for you, namely sp156237 (details here and screenshots in the picture), download here.

Before I committed to rebuilding all this software I tried using the update driver selection for "Intel Sound Smart Sound Technology OED" item. Fortunatly, that worked and brought back all audio functionality.
Additionally, I have been using the "Driver Easy" software for many years. It was the periodic "Driver Easy" driver update that resulted in this issue in the first place. So, "Driver Easy" can be bleesing but in some cases it can create an issue. That brought me down this path where I also discovered HP HAS NOT updated the device drivers to support the Windows 11 24H2 software update for my less than 1 year old HP Laptop. Also makes me leary of future updates by the Driver Easy software that may create additional issues because HP has not updated the drivers in support of Windows 11 24H2.

For the Intel SST Audio Controller driver & and OED from Intel SST for your laptop:
The driver in sp156237 that I gave yesterday seems a little less suitable, it is more suitable in sp154998.
Hopefully with sp154998, the audio problem on your laptop can be solved.

Thanks to all! The driver was the problem and was ultimately resolved by Microsoft rep after yet another attempt to update W11 to 24H2. The MS assist moved up their chain to a supervisor level (their words not mine) and that individual rectified the driver disparity in very short order. I will offer that the solution came with a BIOS update to the HP laptop, too. Regardless I am back in business.
Thanks to all for the recommendations.
