I have lost the sound on my laptop. There's an x by the speaker icon at the bottom right. Checking the device manager, I see two issues under sound. OEM145.inf and OEM146. inf, there's a cross by the speaker. It says this device cannot start (Code 10). It's Real Tech Audio

Hi @SheinArm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the sound issues on your HP laptop, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and possibly fix the problem with your Realtek Audio.

Verify Sound Settings:

  • Ensure the laptop is not muted. Click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and ensure the volume is turned up.
  • Set the correct output device: Right-click the speaker icon, choose "Playback devices," and make sure the correct device (usually "Speakers/Headphones") is set as the default.

Update the Audio Driver:

  • Right-click the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
  • Right-click on "Realtek High Definition Audio" and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" to let Windows update it.

Reinstall the Audio Driver:

  • Go to Device Manager again.
  • Right-click on "Realtek High Definition Audio" and select "Uninstall device."
  • Restart your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.

Run the Windows Sound Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Click on "Troubleshoot" under the Output section.

Use HP Support Assistant:

  • Open HP Support Assistant (pre-installed on HP devices or download it from HP Support Assistant).
  • Go to the "My Dashboard" tab, select "Fixes & Diagnostics," and then use any audio-related diagnostics tools available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
