HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-cp0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop has randomly started emitting loud gunshot-like static (rapid fire, lasts about a second, scares the crap out of me) for no reason. Happens when the laptop is muted and when speakers are disabled. Bios up to date. Uninstalled/reinstalled audio drivers. Ran all the HP diagnostics with no issue. Restarted the computer and it did it right after it shut down. Definitely sounds like it is coming from the speakers, but everything is disabled. This happens whether or not the powercord is plugged in. Noticed it happening more when in tablet mode (specifically when using one Note and opening the keyboard).

Please do a clean install Audio software/driver, this should help.

    (a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,
               https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp101501-102000/sp101514.exe

    (b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver (Realtek) and reboot,
    (c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
    (d) Reboot again.

Regards.
