Loud noise from speaker when playing laptop speaker.  Tried reinstalling audio drivers.  When uninstalling the drivers, the loud noise goes away.  Could just go with the audio drive uninstalled but then it reinstalls when running updates.

Hi @webify68,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing a loud noise from the speakers of your HP Spectre x360-15 when playing audio and the issue goes away when you uninstall the audio drivers, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the problem.

  • Update Audio Drivers: Even though you mentioned reinstalling audio drivers, it's worth trying to update them to the latest version. Visit the official HP support website, enter your laptop's model, and download the latest audio drivers compatible with your system. Install them and check if the issue persists.
  • Roll Back Drivers: If updating the drivers doesn't help, you can try rolling back to the previous version. Right-click on the audio device in the Device Manager, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click on "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.
  • Windows Update: Ensure that your operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for hardware-related issues. Run Windows Update to make sure you have the latest updates installed.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there's an update for your laptop's BIOS/UEFI on the HP support website. Updating the system firmware can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Disable Driver Auto-Installation: You can try disabling automatic driver updates. To do this, open the "System Properties" window (you can press Win + Pause/Break), go to the "Hardware" tab, and click on "Device Installation Settings." Choose "No, let me choose what to do" and then "Never install driver software from Windows Update." However, keep in mind that this may affect other drivers as well.
  • Check for Audio Enhancements: Sometimes, audio enhancements or effects can cause issues. Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray, select "Open Sound settings," and then click on "Sound Control Panel" on the right. In the Playback tab, select your speakers, click on "Properties," and go to the "Enhancements" tab. Try disabling all enhancements and see if that helps.
  • Check for Loose Connections: Physically inspect the speaker connections to ensure there are no loose cables or connections.

Always make sure to back up your important data before making significant changes to your system, such as updating BIOS or making changes in the Device Manager.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
