Hi @Jbtherapy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Microphone!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Since your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp2000 microphone recently stopped working, let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to fix it.

1. Check if the Microphone is Muted or Disabled

  • Settings → System → Sound
  • Under Input, select your microphone and check the volume level.
  • Click Device properties and ensure Disable is not checked.
  • Test the mic by speaking and checking if the input level bar moves.

2. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Settings → System → Sound → Input → Troubleshoot
  • Follow the steps and apply any recommended fixes.

3. Check Privacy Settings

  • Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
  • Ensure Microphone access is ON.
  • Scroll down and check if apps like Zoom, Teams, or browsers have access.

4. Reinstall the Microphone Driver

  1. Press Win + X → Select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
  3. Right-click on your Microphone and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop → Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

5. Manually Update or Roll Back the Audio Driver

  1. Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.
  2. Right-click on Realtek Audio or AMD Audio, then:
    • Click Update driverSearch automatically for drivers.
    • If the issue started after a recent update, try Roll Back Driver (if available).

6. Test in Another App

  • Try Voice Recorder or Google Meet (in browser) to see if the mic works.
  • If it works in one app but not another, the issue is app-specific.

7. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart and enter BIOS (Press F10 on boot).
  • Look for an Audio or Microphone setting and ensure it's enabled.
  • Save changes and restart.
