HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 (169X0AV)

I have an HP Envy x360 15-ed1xxx (Intel i7-1165G7, Tiger Lake) running Windows 11. After upgrading from Windows 10, my internal microphone stopped working.

  • The microphone shows up as “Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones” in Device Manager.

  • There’s no error icon, but the input volume slider immediately drops to zero when I try to raise it.

  • No input level is detected in Sound Settings.

  • I’ve tried every driver on HP’s support page, Intel’s site, Realtek drivers, Windows Update drivers, and third-party sources like Station-Drivers.

  • I even used Device Manager → uninstall / delete driver software → manual driver installation and cleaned the driver store. Still no luck.

  • Registry edits to enable the endpoint (DeviceState = 1) didn’t help.

  • I’ve used Realtek Audio Console; the mic shows up there, but enabling it doesn’t restore input in Windows.

I previously had it working before with an obscure driver I found online, but after a Windows update it stopped and I can’t locate that driver again. I know it’s a driver compatibility issue because hardware detection works.

Does anyone have a known working Intel Smart Sound Technology driver version for this exact model under Windows 11?

Alternatively, is there an official solution from HP or Intel to restore full microphone functionality on Windows 11?

This issue is widely reported, but I’ve yet to find a real fix published. I would appreciate a direct download link or a confirmed driver version that restores functionality. Ideally, someone could just hold my hand here and tell me everything will be okay and I should not bash this thing in with a hammer.

Hi @Jhayes87,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your internal microphone has stopped working after upgrading to Windows 11 on your HP Envy x360 15-ed1xxx (Intel i7-1165g7), this may be due to audio driver incompatibility introduced during the upgrade. The microphone typically appears in Device Manager as “Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones” and may not function even though no errors are displayed.

Please try the steps shared below. This will help solve the issue.

Step 1: BIOS Restore:

1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in

2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

Step 2: Check Microphone Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
  • Ensure that microphone access is enabled for the device and for the applications you intend to use.

Step 3: Verify Sound Settings:

  • Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
  • Under Input, ensure the correct microphone is selected.
  • Click on Device properties and adjust the volume slider.

Step 4: Use Realtek Audio Console:

  • Open the Realtek Audio Console application.
  • Ensure that the microphone is enabled and not muted.

Step 5: Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:

  • Visit the official HP support page for your model: HP Support
  • Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
