Hi everyone,
I have an HP Notebook 15s-fq1004nl, and my microphone is not working anymore all of a sudden. The only way I can use the mic is with my Bluetooth headset. The drivers version I have currently are:
- Microphone Array: 10.0.22621.1
- Realtek Audio: 6.0.9658.1
- Stereo Mix: 10.0.22621.1
Thanks for your help!! I truly appreciate it!

Hi @FacundoBey,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If your HP Notebook 15s-fq1004nl’s built-in microphone has stopped working, but your Bluetooth headset microphone is functioning properly, this issue might be related to drivers, audio settings, or hardware conflicts. Here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Check Microphone Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
- Under the Input section, ensure that the correct microphone (Microphone Array or Internal Microphone) is selected as the default device.
- Click on Device properties and then Additional Device Properties to open the microphone properties window.
- Check the Levels tab to ensure the microphone is not muted and the volume is set to an appropriate level.
2. Run the Windows Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > System > Sound.
- Scroll down to Input and click on Troubleshoot under the Microphone section.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix any microphone-related issues.
3. Check Privacy Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- Ensure that Microphone access is turned on for the device.
- Also, ensure that apps that need microphone access have permissions enabled.
4. Update or Roll Back the Microphone Driver:
- Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Right-click on Microphone Array and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for drivers. If no update is found, try manually updating from HP’s website or Realtek’s official site.
- If the issue started after a recent driver update, you can roll back the driver:
- Right-click on Microphone Array and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @FacundoBey ,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Reinstall the Audio Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click on Realtek Audio under Sound, video, and game controllers and select Uninstall device.
- Check Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the default audio drivers. Alternatively, download and install the latest drivers from the HP support website for your specific model.
6. Check Audio Enhancements:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
- Click on Device properties under the Input section and go to Additional device properties.
- Navigate to the Enhancements tab (if available) and check if any enhancements are enabled that might be interfering with the microphone. Try disabling them to see if it resolves the issue.
7. Test the Microphone in Different Applications:
- Sometimes, the microphone may work in some applications but not in others due to app-specific settings.
- Test the microphone in different applications like Voice Recorder, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams to determine if it’s an app-specific problem.
8. Check BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or F10 during startup).
- Check if there are any settings related to the microphone that might be disabled.
9. Perform a System Restore:
- If the microphone was working previously, you can perform a system restore to revert the system back to a point when it was functioning correctly.
- Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the steps to restore your system.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, the problem might be hardware-related, and you may need to have the internal microphone checked and serviced. Contact phone support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
