Hi HP Community,

I recently did a fresh install of Windows 11 (25H2) on my laptop, an HP Victus 15 fb2666ax. After installation, I downloaded and installed all drivers from Windows Update.

Everything else works perfectly.
My only issue is the microphone volume and sensitivity: they are extremely low.

  • The mic works, but the input level is so low that my voice is barely captured.

  • I've tried everything from reinstalling the driver to reinstalling the device in Device Manager, but there's still no improvement.

  • The problem also happens to wired headphones’ mic aswell.

additionally my mic also catches my desktop audio, despite the fact that I'm using a headset. I am not sure if I am missing an audio driver, using the wrong version, or if there is a specific Realtek driver required.

Does anyone know how to fix the low microphone input issue?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi @Rynder,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you're experiencing low microphone volume and sensitivity issues on your HP Victus 15 after installing Windows 11, the problem might be related to the drivers or Windows settings. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Update Audio Driver Correctly

  • Do NOT rely only on Windows Update — it often installs generic drivers.
  • Go to HP Support → Drivers & Downloads for your exact model.
  • Download and install the latest Realtek / audio driver listed there.
  • Restart your PC after installation.

Check Microphone Settings in Windows:

  • Sound Settings: Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Input Device: Make sure the correct microphone is selected as the input device.
  • Device Properties: Click on Device properties to adjust the volume slider towards 100.
  • Additional Device Properties: Under Related settings, click on Additional device properties.
  • Go to the Levels tab and increase the microphone boost or volume levels.

Disable Audio Enhancements

  • In the same Microphone Properties → Enhancements tab:
  • Check “Disable all enhancements” (or similar).
  • Apply and test — some enhancements lower mic levels.

Check Privacy Settings

  • Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone
  • Microphone access is ON
  • Apps you use are allowed to use the mic.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
