Hi @Florinm

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the built-in microphone on your HP laptop isn't working, here are several troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  • Ensure that "Allow apps to access your microphone" is turned on, and check that the apps you're using are allowed to access it.

2. Check Sound Settings

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Recording tab, right-click on the microphone and select Properties.
  • Make sure it's set as the default device and check the levels.

3. Update Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start button).
  • Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
  • Right-click on the microphone device and select Update driver. Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Run the Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Select Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter to see if it detects and fixes any issues.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Make sure your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

6. Test in Different Apps

  • Try using the microphone in different applications (e.g., Voice Recorder, Zoom, Skype) to see if it works in any of them.

7. BIOS Settings

  • Sometimes, the microphone may be disabled in the BIOS. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F10 during startup). Look for audio settings and ensure the microphone is enabled.

8. Check Hardware

  • If possible, test with an external microphone to see if it works. This can help determine if it's a hardware issue with the internal microphone.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
