I understand your microphone isn’t working on your HP laptop. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.

Check physical connections

If it’s an external microphone, make sure it is plugged into the correct jack or USB port.

Test the microphone on another device to confirm it works.

Check Windows input settings

Right-click the speaker icon → Sounds → Recording tab.

Make sure your microphone is listed and set as Default Device.

Speak into the mic and see if the green level meter moves.

Enable microphone in Settings

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Ensure microphone access is on and apps you want to use it with have permission.

Update or reinstall audio drivers

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.

Right-click your audio device → Update driver. If that doesn’t help, choose Uninstall device and restart your laptop to reinstall automatically.

You can also download the latest driver for your HP model from HP Support.

Check for muted or disabled hardware

Some laptops have a physical microphone mute button or keyboard function key.

Make sure it isn’t muted.

Test with another application

Open Voice Recorder or Zoom and test the microphone to see if it’s detected.
