I want to add a response to an earlier discussion but it says to start a new one since I hadn't replied in a while.

This is in response to Sneha_01's suggestions of March 18, 2025 at 3:27am

Hello Sneha_01,

Thank you very much for your suggestions, but unfortunately, none of them solve the problem. Whatever I try, it doesn't detect a microphone or audio input device.

In the Control Panel, Troubleshooting does not have a Hardware and Sound option (perhaps it did in Windows 10; I'm running Windows 11).

If I go to Settings > System> Sound, under Input, it says "No input devices found."

If I go to Settings > System> Sound > Volume mixer, under Input, it also says "No input devices found." I get the same message if I select "Choose your sound input device" or "Manage input sound devices."

The "Find and fix problems with recording sound" troubleshooter only brings up a Headset microphone (Realtek(R) Audio), and I don't have one -- I only have the built-in system microphone (which used to work fine).

The Privacy settings are not the problem. All microphone settings are set to On, for all apps.

Finally, I cannot uninstall the microphone driver, because none is listed. If I go to Audio inputs and outputs in Device Manager, it only shows the Speaker, no microphone.

I suspect it may be a hardware problem, since no software approaches have worked. But if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks again for your suggestions!

@MJM26, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check BIOS Settings

Sometimes integrated peripherals (like webcams or microphones) can be disabled in BIOS.

Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing ESC during startup).

Look for settings related to integrated peripherals, audio devices, or internal microphones.

If you find anything related to audio input or microphone, make sure it’s enabled.

Save and exit BIOS.

Manually Scan for Hardware Changes

Even if the mic doesn’t appear:

Open Device Manager

Click View > Show Hidden Devices

Right-click the top item (your computer's name) and choose Scan for hardware changes

See if the microphone or “unknown device” appears under Audio inputs and outputs or Sound, video and game controllers

Install OEM Drivers Manually

If your system relies on Realtek audio:

Go to Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support

Find your model and download the audio driver (even if Windows 11 installed its own).

Restart the system afterward.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
