OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 (7B9S3AV)

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with the microphone on my HP Omen laptop. After updating Windows and my drivers, the microphone is still not working. I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensured microphone permissions are enabled for apps
  • Deleted and reinstalled the microphone drivers
  • Rebooted the laptop and checked for updates via Microsoft
  • Updated all drivers, including the audio drivers

Despite these efforts, the microphone still does not work. Could you please assist me in resolving this issue?

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Taliboss10, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We understand you are facing an issue with your microphone. Since you've already tried the essential troubleshooting steps, let's go deeper into diagnosing and fixing the issue.

Advanced Troubleshooting Steps:

Check Input Device in Sound Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Under Input, ensure the correct microphone is selected.
  • Click Device Properties, then Additional device properties.
  • In the Levels tab, ensure the microphone volume is up.
  • Under the Advanced tab, uncheck Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device, then click Apply.

Run the Audio Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Click Additional troubleshooters > Recording Audio > Run the troubleshooter.

Check Windows Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
  • Ensure Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are enabled.

Test Microphone in Another App

  • Try using Voice Recorder or Google Meet/Microsoft Teams to check if the microphone works there.

Check HP Audio Control (B&O) Settings

  • Open Bang & Olufsen Audio Control (if installed).
  • Go to Input Devices and ensure your microphone is detected and unmuted.

Check if the Microphone is Disabled in Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Right-click Microphone Array, and select Enable device (if disabled).
  • If the issue persists, try Uninstall device and reboot your laptop.

Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (press F10 at startup).
  • Look for Audio/Microphone Settings and ensure it's enabled.

Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Tool

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 at boot.
  • Select Component Tests > Audio and run a microphone test.

Try Using an External Microphone

  • If an external microphone works, the built-in mic may have a hardware issue.

Perform a System Restore

If the microphone stopped working after a Windows update, try restoring your system:

  • Search for Create a restore point in Windows.
  • Click System Restore > Choose a restore point before the issue occurred.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
