My microphone that is built into the laptop is not working. I have run all sorts of troubleshooting, diagnostics, update drivers, updated windows, etc. Sometimes it will work, but rarely. When I set up the microphone, it does not hear my voice. When I open the sound settings and test the microphone, the only time the sound bar increases is when I tap the microphone. How do I fix it?

I have uninstalled drivers and restarted the notebook. I have run HP assistant and everything is updated, and it found no issues with troubleshooting. Windows is updated. I just ran System File Checker which I found in a similar post. Still not working.

@_me Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that the Microphone not working.
Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.
In that case, I would suggest you uninstall the Audio driver and reinstall the drivers and update the BIOS.
If the issue still persists, please try creating a new user account on your computer.
Go to http://hp.care/2dWJKgW and follow the steps to create a new user account.

Praveen, that has not fixed it. All the drivers are updated, the BIOS is updated, and it still does not work on the other account. It would work with a headset/mic plugged in, but now the audio will not play in the headset, nor will it it use the mic on the headset. What else can be done? Thank you!

I understand your concerns.
Please perform the system reset.
Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.
You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.
-
If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.
-
If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.
Have a nice day!!
