My inbuilt microphone is not detected by the computer. Even in every application microphone is not working at all. I am facing this issue since last three months. I had lodged a complaint on 19th November, 2024 for its resolution vide case ID :[Personal Information Removed]. But no technical visit and repair resolution was provided instead the live keep on asking to wait for 24-48 hours. Now Its has been more than 120 hours from the time of lodging of complaint but there is still no response from the hp team or service engineer. I feel just like a chaatak bird and very embarrassed and i think they are testing my patience.
If you guys can resolve please provide the solution or repair laptop microphone.

Hi @TK1993
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with your microphone and are facing delays in getting support. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with your built-in microphone. This will also cover some common solutions in case your device isn't detecting the microphone.
Step 1: Check if the Microphone is Enabled
Sometimes, the microphone may be disabled in your system settings. To check and enable it:
- Right-click on the sound icon in the system tray (bottom-right of your screen).
- Click on "Sounds".
- Go to the Recording tab.
- Look for your Microphone in the list. If it's there but disabled, right-click on it and select Enable.
- Set your microphone as the default device by right-clicking and selecting Set as Default Device.
Step 2: Check Device Manager for Issues
Your microphone might not be working due to a driver issue. To check if the drivers are up-to-date:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
- Look for your microphone device. If there’s a yellow exclamation mark next to it, there’s likely a driver issue.
- Right-click on your microphone and select Update Driver.
- If that doesn’t work, you can try uninstalling the device and then restarting your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
Step 3: Run the Troubleshooter
- Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
- Go to System > Sound.
- Scroll down and click on Troubleshoot under the Input section to diagnose and fix any microphone issues.
Step 4: Check Privacy Settings
Sometimes, your computer’s privacy settings can prevent applications from accessing the microphone.
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Ensure that Allow apps to access your microphone is turned on.
- Make sure the specific app you want to use is listed under Choose which apps can access your microphone, and ensure it is turned on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
