HP Help 030125 Speech recognition help

Dear Riddle_Decipher , you graciously provided the guidance below, as to speech recognition. (I used https://www.loom.com/webcam-mic-test and checked my camera and microphone. The camera works but the microphone is not working.)

--------------Method 2: Set your mic as your default device

You can take the following steps to check if your microphone is the Default Device on your computer (be sure that your audio driver is up-to-date):

Right-click the volume icon in the bottom-right part of your screen, then select Sounds.
Click the Recording tab.

Right-click on the device you want to use, and select Set as Default Device.
Note: You can try speaking into your microphone to test if it’s working properly. If it is, you should see a green bar rising next to it while you talk:
Right-click on and disable every other input device except the one you want to use. (If you have any other output devices, repeat for the Playback tab).
Click OK.
Check if your mic works as expected.
----------------------------------
I followed your suggestion (method 2) , and was unable to set my mic as the default device. I may be making the wrong choices. Here are my questions:

1. In the 'Set up Speech Recognition', pg 1 'Welcome to Speech Recognition' When I click next, the choices are: Headset Microphone, Desktop Microphone, or Other. (Which choice is correct for the built-in microphone that is part of the webcam? I have been selecting Desktop Microphone. )
2. When I get to pg 3, 'Adjust the volume...' and I speak as instructed, is something supposed to show in the Grey box?
3. Sometime ago, I installed the last update to Windows 7. I wonder if this could have disabled the microphone?

Dear Irwin6 HP Support, Power drain of the PC did not work. Then I clicked the troubleshoot link, and apparently the Windows audio trouble shooting is not available in Windows7 on this HP laptop. I was able to determine that my driver for the HP Webcam is up to date. What other tests can you suggest? JC
