HI @toney3,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the microphone on your HP Envy x360 has stopped working and isn't showing up in the settings, here’s a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue:
1. Check Physical Connections
- External Microphones: If you’re using an external microphone, ensure it is properly connected to the correct port. Try using another port or a different microphone to see if the issue persists.
2. Verify Microphone Settings
- Open Settings: Go to Settings > System > Sound.
- Input Devices: Under Input, make sure that the correct microphone is selected from the drop-down menu.
- Test Microphone: Speak into the microphone and see if the input level changes. If it doesn’t, the microphone may not be detected.
3. Enable Microphone Access
- Open Settings: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Allow Access: Ensure that Allow apps to access your microphone is turned on. Also, check that the specific apps you want to use the microphone with have permission.
4. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
- Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
- Right-click on your microphone device (it might be listed as "High Definition Audio Device" or similar) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Follow the prompts to install any available updates.
- Reinstall Drivers:
- If updating doesn’t work, right-click on the microphone device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the microphone driver.
5. Check Windows Troubleshooter
- Run Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Recording Audio and click Run. Follow the prompts to let Windows diagnose and fix any issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
