Hi @C075,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like there might be an issue with the audio settings or drivers on your HP Envy X360 2-in-1 laptop after connecting an HDMI cord. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the microphone problem.
Check Audio Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under the "Input" section, make sure the correct microphone is selected as the default device.
Restart Your Laptop:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve hardware and software conflicts.
Check Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager."
- Look for the "Audio inputs and outputs" and "Sound, video and game controllers" sections.
- Ensure there are no yellow exclamation marks next to your audio devices. If there are, it indicates a driver issue.
Update Audio Drivers:
- Right-click on the audio device in Device Manager and select "Update driver."
- Choose to search for updated driver software automatically.
Roll Back Audio Drivers:
- If the issue started after a driver update, you can try rolling back to the previous version.
- Right-click on the audio device in Device Manager, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and choose "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.
Check Privacy Settings:
- Go to "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Microphone" and ensure that the microphone access is enabled for the applications you are using.
Windows Troubleshooter:
- Run the built-in Windows troubleshooter by going to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Additional troubleshooters" > "Playing Audio" and "Recording Audio."
Restore System:
- If none of the above steps work, you may consider restoring your system to a point before the issue occurred. This can be done using the System Restore feature.
Check HDMI Audio Output Settings:
- Sometimes, when connecting an HDMI cable, the audio output may switch to the connected device. Check your audio settings and switch the default output back to the internal speakers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
