HP Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I purchased my HP Envy x360 laptop in November 2018.   Have only started using the built in microphone recently while in Zoom.  Other parties have told me of a lot of noise from my connection.   The built in microphone is a microphone array by Realtek.   I made sure that the drivers are up to date and checked all the settings for the audio.    All seems OK.   I tested the microphone locally through recording with the camera app.    When played back I experience the noise.    Thinking that it may be a hardware issue with the microphone, I purchased an external USB microphone.   Although this produces good quality audio recording using the camera app, other parties connected to with Zoom still report noise.

@upstream012751,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the microphone.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

1. Run Audio Troubleshooter

  - Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in

     Windows search.

  - Click on "Playing Audio".

  - Follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Check if microphone isn't disabled.

  - Right click on the Volume Icon on the taskbar, select "Recording Devices".

  - Click on "Show disconnected devices", and "Show disabled devices".

  - Select on Microphone, click on "Properties". If it is disabled, enable it.

  - Once enabled, set Microphone as default audio input device.

3. Check if microphone isn't muted.

  - Right Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Volume Mixer".

  - On the Microphone slider, slide it up to 100%.

4. Boost sensitivity of Microphone

  - Right Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Recording".

  - Double click on Microphone.

  - Open the Levels Tab, move the Microphone boost slider up to check audio.

5. Disable enhancements

  - Right Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Recording“, Double

     click on Microphone.

  - Open the Enhancements / Effects Tab.

  - Check "Disable All Sound / System Effects“. Click Apply, OK, test the Microphone again.

6. Change format of the Microphone

  - Right click on the Volume Icon on the taskbar, select "Recording Devices".

  - Double click on Microphone.

  - Go to the Advanced Tab, choose any of the 16 bit options on the list.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I could not follow your instructions as they are written.   Not sure if we are using the same version of Windows or what the trouble is.   That said, I tried to do the steps the best I could and found no help with any of these suggestions.

I also want to say that I noticed that I am not the only user that has reported an issue with noise created by microphone.   Refer to post named ...

Static/Crackling noise during live stream or recording playback

by user NavyA6bn.

I went through all of the procedures that you recommended and I found no fix for my problem.  After each step, I tested the microphone with the Camera app by recording audio and replaying it.   There was always noise on the recording.

Next step?

Having the same problems.  Went through all of the same fixes.  Static and crackling for listeners on zoom.  And same crackling and static re-created when using microphone voice recordings.

Have tried all on line/support room recommendations.

Anything else?

I have been having the same problems and following all the troubleshooting/ recommendations etc. NOTHING WORKED....

I recently just tried 3 new things and it HAD to be one of these things that fixed it because it NOW WORKS 🙂  when I opened up my camera and recorded there was no more noise. I also just got off zoom with my mom to test it on there, twice and it WORKED.

Im not sure which of these it was that fixed the input issue but here are some things I did.

First has anyone tried the recovery manager app that the virtual assistant says to download and all those instructions??

I hadn't checked my sound after this because I got a pop up saying my OS system driver doesn't support the Realtek audio update so I figured it wasn't that but if someone could reply and let me know if you have tried this?

Unfortunately I've got the same problem. I've tried all the solutions and update the HP Bios (update was available). Nothing works. It sounds like there has been a distortion effect added... The only way to create a proper microphone sound is to use an external USB microphone and that's not what I want.... I hope there's another solution available?

Hello HP.

1.  Can you offer any comments on the reply from BrooklynCapri above.    What do you feel that he did may have fixed the problem for him?

2.  Also, is there any value in switching to an external USB Microphone?   I actually tried that and it seemed to fix the problem when I recorded locally on camera app and replayed it.   No noise.   But, I am told that the USB Mic did NOT fix the noise in Zoom.   I am taking the word of the folks on the other end of the connection about that.   Makes no sense to me.

@upstream012751,

Not sure what exactly fixed the issue for the user.

Are you facing issues only with the Zoom App. If yes, then try the steps in the below article and check.

If the issue is in all the applications then follow the steps in the below article.
