Microsoft Windows 11

Recently purchased this laptop as a refurb and (naively) updated to Windows 11 on first setup without researching first.

Following upgrade the sound on the laptop isn't working as the driver appears to be missing. I have tried updating the drivers from the Device Manager with no luck. I have also tried accessing through Sound on the Control Panel but am told no audio devices are installed. HP Support only provides drivers for Windows 10/earlier, and have been unable to find/download any relevant drivers online.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @mfunnell91 .
I downloaded the following driver but have not installed it yet:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp104001-104500/sp104010.exe

HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads

You can do two things, install it from the device manager or install it in compatibility mode:
select the "Driver file".
Then select "Troubleshoot compatibility issues".
Select "Troubleshooting Program".
You will then be prompted to select "The program worked in previous versions of Windows, but will not install or run now".
Click on the "Next" box and then select "Windows 10", and again select "Next".
Finally select "Test the program".

Hi, @mfunnell91

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to see if this W11 Realtek audio driver works on your notebook model series.

6.0.9183.1

Thanks for the v prompt response - unfortunately doesn't seem to have worked.

Please can you expand a bit what you mean by select the 'driver file' when in compatibility mode - how do I know which of the many files to select?

Thanks Paul - I've tried this download/installation and doesn't appear to have worked unfortunately

You're very welcome.

Sorry that version of the W11 driver didn't work.

That driver seems to be listed in several different model's support pages, so there may not be too many other options to choose from right now.

You may have to wait until drivers are released for W11 on your notebook's support page.
