ENVY 17t-s100CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After installing the  Windows 10 Fall Creators Update  build number 16299.64 I noticed the the sound from the speakers was not its usual quality, so I open the B&O Audio Manager and adjusted the sound the way I like it.  I then tried Cortana by saying "Hey Cortana".  Cortana would hear "Hey Cortana" and pop up but would hear anything else.  I tried the mic setup and when I reached the point  where I had to say a phrase It didn't hear me.  I then went to the HP site and downloaded the Realtek HD audio driver sp76780.exe and installed it.  Cortana works now but the B&O Audio Manager is now missing.

What can I do to get the Audio Manager back?  It was a selling point for this laptop.

@KSW120

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out,

As I understand the Bang and Olufsen software is missing,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you update to the latest drivers from the HP website?

(Click here to find and install, if you haven't)

If you have and it doesn't work, please Install the 2.81 64-bit Windows 10 driver, and you will have the equalizer back. Do NOT uninstall the present driver, just run the file you just downloaded.

Click here to download the Audio codec & with it the missing software.

(The above link is 3rd party and is not owned by HP, I've posted this only so that I may help you resolve this issue by going beyond by support boundaries, please ignore the ads and take only the free suggestions)

If the issue persists, please remove the software and try downloading and reinstalling the Realtek HD Audio software package on the following link - this should also reinstall the B&o guide:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp80501-81000/sp80538.exe

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi, thanks for your reply

After reading your reply I first verified the audio driver I installed was the latest for windows 10. For my laptop, product ID Y4A48AV, model HP ENVY ENVY 17t-s100CTO there was one audio file listed

RealTek High Definition (HD) Audio Driver:  sp76780.exe  Version 6.0.1.7801 Rev.C Date Jul 18, 2016

This was the driver I had installed.  Just to be sure I installed sp76780 again.  After the reinstall still no B&O Audio Manager.  I then tried searching for Bang & Olufsen in the search box and found nothing

I then tried installing the 2.81 64-bit Windows 10 driver from Realtek.  You had said not to uninstall the present driver however the install wizard requires a 2 step process of uninstalling old driver and installing new driver with reboots between.  After installing this driver the B&O Audio Manager was back but would not boot up.  I even tried "Run as Administrator" still would not boot up.

I then tried installing sp80538.exe.  Again no B&O Audio Manager and the sound quality from the speakers is poor.  I then tried searching for Bang & Olufsen in the search box and found nothing.

Again any new suggestions would be appreciated.

@KSW120

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

If there are issues with poor sound quality after installing the latest driver/software,

Here's what I recommend you do:

please remove the software and try downloading and reinstalling the Realtek HD Audio software package on the following link - this should also reinstall the B&o guide:

If the last version I provided didn't help, Click here to download and install another version.

If the issue persists, please try the below steps to disable the audio compression by B&o:

  1. Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
  2. In the list of audio device drivers, look for Realtek High Definition Audio. This is the device driver for BeatsAudio (a little bit sneaky, wouldn’t you say?).
  3. Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
  5. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
  6. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  7. You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
  8. In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
  9. At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
  10. In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllerssection, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead ofRealtek High Definition Audio.
  11. At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.
  12. Enjoy your music now with no compression

How can you help me if I am attempting to Update both the B&O Audio Manager Player, and the RealTek HD Codec directly from the developers site?

I cannot seem to find the latest drivers anymore on the RealTek Website. In fact, they have made it very difficult to find anything as opposed to before when they easily and constantly provided links to updates.

Also I am unable to find anything beyond 2017 now, and I know for a fact they have newer drivers because the one i am currently using is from 2019, with a newer one as of 01/07/20 per DriverMax.  I am attempting to find the offline installer for future reference, as i had always done in the past. Now you cannot find anything (without getting aggravated first) on their site.

1. Do you know of another link(s), or page from RealTek that I am missing with the current drivers? Those provided on their site at the link below only show up to "2017."

REALTEK HD AUDIO:

https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/advanced-search/511?Itemid=276

Furthermore, after installing any of the updates, it usually eliminates the B&O Player as the guy mentioned in the original post. So, as I had done with RealTek, I have gone directly to the developer site, and puzzled on what to download there? My version of B&O Player only shows the Audio Driver Version as: "6.0.1.7673." Which does not help me to know what to download, or install from the updater that they provide.

2. Do you know what to install from the "B&O Player Software Updater" (link below) for the B&O Audio Manager, reinstall or upgrade? It is a little confusing.

BEOPLAY SOFTWARE UPDATER:

https://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/product-support/accessories/beoplay-software-updater

Finally, after review on this, please provide a more thorough, and intelligent reply since I have most of the research and legwork already done for you. Answering these questions would help for anyone who has updated, or wants to update, as opposed to reverting back to the original driver which more or less defeats the whole reason for anyone even requesting assistance on this topic. Most generally like myself, it is either looking for an update, updated already, and lost the B&O Player,  and wanting a solution.

Looking forward to a response! Thanks!
