Hi
I have a USB mic, which works great on another laptop running win 10, but has a very low input level on this laptop. The 'volume slider' on the microphone properties levels tab, is at 100 but is still very quiet. The 'Microphone Boost' option, which is normally below the 'volume' slider is not there.
I have tried:
- reinstalled realtek audio driver manually
- installed HP Support Assistant and updated all required drivers
- used Troubleshooting in HP Support Assistant
but nothing made any difference.
Does anyone know if this laptop model even supports the Mic Boost feature in Win11?
Perhaps I am trying to add something that is not available on this laptop or perhaps not available in win 11?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

I understand your USB microphone works on another laptop, but on this HP laptop running Windows 11, it has very low input and the Microphone Boost option is missing. Let’s go through why this happens and what can be done.
USB microphones usually bypass Mic Boost
The Microphone Boost setting is a feature of analog (3.5mm) microphones connected to the Realtek or onboard sound card.
USB microphones have their own internal preamp and are handled digitally, so Windows often does not show a Mic Boost slider for USB mics.
This is normal behavior on many modern laptops, especially with Realtek drivers.
Check input levels in Windows
Go to Settings > System > Sound > Input, select your USB microphone, and check the Input volume.
You can raise it to 100%, but some USB mics still record quietly due to their internal gain settings.
Check recording software or app settings
Many apps (Zoom, Teams, OBS, Audacity) have independent microphone gain controls.
Increase input level inside the software if Windows shows low levels.
Enable "Listen to this device" for testing
In Control Panel > Sound > Recording > Properties of the USB mic, go to Listen tab and check Listen to this device.
This lets you hear the mic in real-time and adjust software gain if needed.
Update or reinstall USB microphone driver
Some USB mics have their own driver package or firmware.
Check the manufacturer’s site for a Windows 11 driver.
I hope this helps.
