The mute button has been flashing as it was being pressed rapidly, and rapidly muting and un-muting the speakers. Is there a way to fix this or disable the button altogether?

Hi! @JB_97, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand led on the mute button keeps flashing on your laptop.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?
Is the led blinking only on the mute button?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
Try updating the BIOS and audio drivers to the latest version using HP support assistant.
Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.
If the issue still persists try uninstalling the audio drivers from device manager and install the audio driver using HP recovery manager and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know how to restore drivers using HP recovery manager.

I have this issue too. I have an HP envy, and I have no idea why my computer only spazzes the mute button. it has no pattern at all, garbles sound, and it won't quit unless it does so on its own time or restart, which is annoying if I am playing a videogame and have to reset to have sound. I have tried pressing it a few times to see if it was stuck, looking anything up to help, and nothing. It's really confusing and I haven't downloaded any software or updates to change this. I would like help asap please!

I had a BUG on my desktop and smacked the speakers & some of the F buttons. I though, well, as long as the headphones work, I can get around it!
Kid you not: I plugged in headphones and it fixed it. Unplugged headphones and it IS STILL FIXED!
Wishing you the same luck !
