The sound on my HP Envy stopped while I was watching YouTube today. I can, however, get sound through external speakers or headphones. How do I fix the internal sound?

Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Do not post the serial number.

Would this be the same as Device Name?

I do not believe so.

Please use this guide for how to find the information I am looking for...

OK, thanks.

For future reference you have a HP ENVY - 17-u273cl notebook PC.

See if installing the latest audio driver and restarting the PC, resolves the problem...

After installing the latest driver there is no change. Do you have any other suggestions? If I plug in headphones or external speakers I do have sound. Otherwise, I do not.

Unfortunately, I don't.

Did you go to the Windows Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Manage Audio Devices and make sure the PC speakers are set as the default?

Maybe that setting got changed somehow.

It could be a hardware issue if all of a sudden the speakers quit working.

Bad connection from the motherboard to the speakers, which might explain why the headphone jack works and the speakers don't.

I checked that too. When I clicked TEST I faintly heard a chime then static.

I don't know how you feel about backing up your files and doing a factory reset, but short of doing that, I don't know what else you can do in order to rule out a hardware issue.

Here's the various ways to factory reset your notebook...
