HP Mini 210-1012TU PC
Microsoft Windows XP

For several weeks now, I have not been able to obtain or use any application that  provides sound to the user, i.e. Windows Media Player, VLC, etc.  There seems to be no audio device in my Mini.  It looks for an Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus (but there is the file 'hdaudbus.sys' at C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hdaudbus.sys).

Attempting to re-install that file eventually gives me the message "No Audio Device".  The Virtual Agent is fixated on the newer MS OSes.  I do really need help from the HP Community!

Hi:

See if this works...If your notebook is running XP SP 2 or older, install this driver first and restart the PC.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32001-32500/sp32395.exe

Then install the audio driver from your notebook's support page, and restart the PC.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49309.exe

If your notebook is running XP SP3, go straight to installing sp49309 and restart the PC.

Hello Paul!

Your suggestion(s) brought my Mini back to life.  SP49309.exe added IDT High Defnition Audio Codec to Sound, video and game controllers and after the installation, I immediately checked it out.  Sure enough, sound emanated from the HP Mini!  Granted, its internal speakers have never been the top of the line, but when I used some earphones, I had to turn the volume down!

You have no idea how happy I am this morning with the outcome of your intervention which was very good as it had several options (i.e. with SP2 or with SP3);  I already had SP3 installed so the whole process was very straightforward.

Thank you VERY MUCH for making me a Happy Camper once again.

P.S. If you have any suggestions for amplifying the volume on the Mini's internal speakers, that would really be the icing on the cake!

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions to make the speakers louder other than to turn the volume all the way up, which I am sure you must have done already.

Well, as the saying goes "You can't have your cake and eat it too!"

At least, I'm now back to a semblance of normalcy - many thanks to you, Paul !    😉
