I used HP PC Hardware Diagnostic utility to find the built-in microphones, and it only found a USB which I have to connect one to a USB port for it become available as an input device. The built-in was working with original driver until a new driver was automatically installed. Please help, Thank you.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this—it’s frustrating when the built‑in microphones disappear after a driver update, especially when they were working fine before. 

 

Let’s go step by step to restore them so they show up again as an input device.

 

Step 1: Check Sound Settings

  • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  • Go to System > Sound > Input.
  • See if the built‑in array microphone is listed.
  • If it isn’t, continue with the next steps.

 

Step 2: Verify Device Manager

  • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Look for “Microphone Array” or “Internal Microphone.”
  • If missing, expand Sound, video and game controllers and check for Realtek or Conexant audio devices.
  • If the microphone is disabled, right‑click and choose Enable device.

 

Step 3: Roll Back or Reinstall Driver

  • In Device Manager, right‑click the audio device and select Properties.
  • Under the Driver tab, choose Roll Back Driver if available.
  • If not, select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the PC—Windows will reinstall a generic driver.
  • Then install the correct driver from HP’s support page for your OmniStudio model.

Step 4: Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter.
  • Follow the prompts to detect and fix microphone issues.

 

Step 5: Update BIOS and Windows

  • On the HP support page, check for BIOS updates for your model.
  • Make sure Windows Update is fully installed.
  • This ensures hardware and drivers communicate correctly.

 

Step 6: Test with HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the PC and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests > Audio.
  • Run the microphone test to confirm detection.

Why this helps

  • Rolling back or reinstalling the audio driver restores the original microphone functionality.
  • BIOS and Windows updates align hardware communication.
  • Diagnostics confirm whether the microphone hardware is still detected.

 

Once the correct driver is installed, the “Microphone Array” should reappear in your input devices list and function normally again.
