The title says it all. I bought a new Headset with a microphone but when I plug it in [Win10] nothing happens. After a little bit of research I found that there should be a pop up asking me to enable one of the devices (either the new headset or the built in ones) but I do not get any pop ups and my hp Realtek audio software (dts | sounds+) does not have the option of enabling it.
Note: Other laptops like Dell have another audio software that allows enabling/disabling the pop up option.
Bottomline: I can't use my microphone and I need to find a way to allow the pop up of windows 10 to be able to select my microphone.

Greetings @Mariosh,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are looking to use the microphone on your computer using the combo port, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Found that Microsoft post, try the steps suggested and let me know if this helped.
Keep me posted.

Thank you for your help, sir.
Yes, I am trying to plugin my headset (which has a microphone included) using the combo port.
Well, honestly before even posting in the forum I tried the method in the microsoft post you mentioned but it didn't solve the problem because basically it will lead me to the Realtek HD Audio manager in my hp laptop (which is DTS | Sound+) and we are back to square one in which we are trying to find the option to allow the automatic pop up.
My suggetion is trying to find another software/version for my Realtek audio instead of that DTS | Sound+ but I am not sure whether it's even possible to do so.
Thank you in advance Mr. @Chimney_83. 🙂

Thanks for the reply, recommend you uninstall the audio driver on your computer, restart your computer and run HP Support Assistant to update the audio driver on your computer and check. Click here to know more about HPSA.
Recommend you do a right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar, select recording devices and tap the microphone and check if the equalizer moves.
Select line-in as the default device and test.
Keep me posted.

I did as you said
1- uninstalled audio driver then restarted the laptop
2- Installed HPSA and used it to install the latest Realtek HD audio driver
3- Went to the recording devices and here we are .. My microphone is not recognized (as you can see it says Not plugged in) it's only the laptop built in microphone that is recognized.
Note: The internal microphone works and it's equalizer moves.

Hi @Mariosh,
Thank you for replying,
I appreciate your time and efforts,
As I understand you the internal microphone works, I would suggest here is to check with a headphone if you are able hear any sound. Also I would suggest here is to try a different headphone with an microphone as this could be an issue with the external microphone itself being faulty.

@Jeet_singh Thanks for replying,
Headphone sound works, The microphone works on other computers so there's no problem with it, the problem is in my laptop.
I followed the steps in the support document but still did not solve the problem
Reminder: my headset has two separate jacks (one for the headphone and one for the microphone and both of them work fine on computers that has two separate audio ports.
After a bit more of research I discovered that most of HP users have the same issue, the combo port of HP laptops does not recognize the microphone of a 2-jack-headset.
Thanks again for the help, I am sure there is a solution for this problem.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Recommend you try a headset with a combo port and check if the microphone works.
When the microphone is connected to the combo port, did you try to tap it and check if it responded in the recording device's settings dialog box.
Keep me posted.

Thank you for your quick responses I really appreciate it,
Before buying this new headset I had one with a combo port and it worked fine. but it broke up and I bought another one with two separate jacks.
When I tap on the microphone nothing happens (obviously) because the laptop didn't even recognize the microphone. I don't know why I thought the combo port should (at least) recognize any of them when connected separately.
I believe the solution is might be is to get an older version of Realtek audio manager than (dts | Sound+). A version like in the image attached and it will have the option we are looking for (enable auto pop up) so that the pc will finally recognize it.
The older one that has the option
the one I have now that do not have the option 😕

Thanks for the reply and providing the screen shots. Recommend you to go through the settings in the new DTS software and check if the option you are looking for is available.
If not recommend you get a headphone with a combo jack.
Keep me posted.
