My built in Array microphone is not working at all. It does not record sound in the sound recorder and no one can hear on virtual calls etc. I tried updating drivers and reinstalling them and no luck. Any ideas on what to do?

Hi @Momx3girls,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 15s-fq2000 built-in array microphone is not working at all, even after updating or reinstalling drivers. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

1. Check Microphone Privacy Settings

Press Windows + I → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Ensure Microphone access for this device is On.

Ensure apps you want to use (Sound Recorder, Zoom, Teams, etc.) have microphone access enabled.

2. Set the Correct Default Microphone

Right-click the Speaker icon → Sound settings → Input → Choose your input device.

Select Array Microphone (Realtek/Intel) if available.

Test it using the Test your microphone slider.

3. Check Device Manager

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Audio inputs and outputs.

Look for Microphone / Array Microphone.

Right-click → Properties → Device status to ensure it’s working.

If there’s a yellow warning, right-click → Update driver → Search automatically.

4. Disable Audio Enhancements

In Sound settings → Input devices → Device properties → Additional device properties → Enhancements tab, disable any enhancements.

Sometimes audio enhancements can block the microphone.

5. Run Windows Troubleshooter

Press Windows + I → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Recording Audio → Run.

Follow the prompts to detect and fix microphone issues.

6. Check for Physical or Hardware Issues

Make sure nothing is physically blocking the microphone holes near the keyboard or top bezel.

If your laptop has a microphone mute function or key, ensure it is off.

7. Test in Safe Mode

Boot Windows in Safe Mode and test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

If it works in Safe Mode, a third-party app or driver conflict is likely causing the issue.

8. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Go to HP Support → Enter your product number → Download latest BIOS and chipset drivers.

Install updates and restart your laptop.

9. Reset Windows Audio Services

Press Windows + R → services.msc → find Windows Audio → right-click → Restart.

Do the same for Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.

I hope this helps.
