@Mone100, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
ep, I can help you with that.
On most HP Envy 17 laptops, the built-in microphone can be enabled or disabled using the F8 key (sometimes F10 or F12 depending on your model). Here’s how to check and reactivate it:
Reactivate Mic Using F Key
- Look for a key on the top row (usually F8, may have a microphone icon with a slash).
- Press it once to toggle the microphone on.
- If nothing happens, try holding the Fn key + F8.
- Some HP laptops use Fn Lock, so try both with and without Fn.
Re-enable Mic from Windows Settings
If the key doesn't help, the mic may be disabled in settings. Try this:
- Right-click the 🔊 sound icon in the system tray.
- Click Sound settings.
- Scroll down and click More sound settings under Advanced.
- In the Recording tab:
- Look for "Internal Microphone".
- If it's disabled (greyed out), right-click > Enable.
- Set it as Default Device if needed.
Check Privacy Settings
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- Make sure Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are both On.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
